Boy fights for life after road smash

A NINE-year-old cyclist was left with life-threatening head injuries after a collision with a car last night.

The accident happened at around 6.10pm when a black Peugeot 307 driven by a 56-year-old man from Kimberworth, is believed to have been travelling on Richmond Park Avenue in the general direction of Meadowhall Road.

About 30 metres from the junction with Sopewell Road it is reported that a boy on a bicycle emerged from the near side kerb, colliding with the front of the vehicle.

The youngster, also from Kimberworth, suffered head injuries and multiple fractures, and was taken to Sheffield Children's Hospital where his condition remains life-threatening.

The driver of the Peugeot was not injured.
