Big challenge on tiny bikes

AN eager group of businessmen have completed a mammoth challenge with a twist—all in aid of a children's charity.

Four staff from Rotherham-based Horbury Group joined seven friends travelling the length of the country from John O' Groats to Land's End on “underpowered” motorcycles, clocking up 874 miles and raising £3,366 for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

Each rider was allowed to spend £250 of their own money to buy a bike no bigger than 50cc—tiny in motorcycle terms—which would not normally be used for a long journey.

It was then up to the rider to make the bike roadworthy.

Trevor Wragg, managing director of the Horbury Group, said: "When we were thinking of raising money for charity we wanted to do something that was both unique and challenging.

"I don't think we quite realised how tough it would be. It was a very gruelling challenge both physically and mentally, but all in aid of a good cause.

"We all really enjoyed the task right the way through from adapting the bike to the finish line at Lands end.

“We had plenty of breakdowns and challenges to keep the team occupied on the journey.

“The response we have received from everyone who chose to sponsor us has been fantastic and I cannot thank them enough for supporting us and making it a worthwhile venture.”

The trip took a total of three days, with the fund-raisers riding for a total of 15 hours on the leg from Carlisle down to Bristol
