Bid to cut Rotherham's ovarian cancer toll

WOMEN are being urged to look after their health by watching out for early signs of ovarian cancer.

Staff at Rotherham’s RAIN Building advice centre are bidding to raise awareness of the disease and encouraging people to be checked out if they fear they may be showing symptoms.

More than 5,800 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year, with eight of ten being over 50.

Lynne Gillis from the RAIN Building said: “I’m more than willing to speak to groups in the community or speak to anyone on a one-to-one basis in the community or here.

“I’m looking to make people more aware of ovarian cancer and what to look for to save lives.”

Symptoms of ovarian cancer include feeling bloated for several days, persistent pelvic and abdominal pain and difficulty eating.
