Beware danger lurking in your hot tub

Specialists at NHS Rotherham warned this week that if stringent quality water checks are not carried out, hot tubs become the perfect breeding ground for bugs and germs to multiply.

As a result, people can become prone to infections and in more serious cases, Legionnaires' Disease can be contracted.

Kathy Wakefield, is the infection control specialist nurse at NHS Rotherham: “We know people enjoy water as a way of cooling down in the warmer weather, and we certainly don't want to worry people into not having fun.

“But we do want everyone to enjoy a happy and healthy summer so it's really important to keep yourself and your friends safe.

“If you own a spa or tub, it is essential that you know how to control these bacteria by following your user instructions especially on how and when to clean and disinfect your hot tub or spa pool.”
