Banned driver in 70mph night chase with lights off

A DISQUALIFIED driver from Rotherham stole a Land Rover and led police on a 25-mile, 40-minute high-speed chase.

Michael Johnson-Cutts raced through villages at more than twice the speed limit and lost control of the vehicle on several occasions, mounting grass verges.

Pursued by police cars and the force helicopter at one stage, he switched off his lights to avoid detection while travelling down a narrow country lane at more than 70mph.

At the time of the offence the 25-year-old, of Meadowcroft Close, who broke into the car outside a house in Belper, Derbyshire, to take it, was on a suspended sentence after head-butting his ex-partner.

After finally giving himself up to the police in Clowne, Johnson-Cutts admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving with no insurance and aggravated vehicle taking and was jailed for 20 months.
