GRANDPARENTS and their grandkids are being invited to an open day at a Rotherham fire station this weekend.

Older people are one of the most at risk groups, according to research by the fire service, and are being asked to get behind a major safety drive this winter.

To kick start the campaign, Aston Park fire station is holding a grandparents and grandkids open day on Saturday when there will be a range of activities and demonstrations for the whole family. These will include face painting, chip pan fire demonstrations, cutting casualties from a mock crash and a pass it on cooking session.

Firefighters will be on hand to offer information about home fire safety as well as pensions and benefits.

The event will run from 11am until 4pm.
