Aston Parish Council

A parish council meeting was held at the Aston Parish Hall 6.45pm on March 13.

This was followed by the Annual Parish Meeting 7.30pm.  

The chairperson opened the meeting with apologies for absence being noted and went on to approve the previous meeting’s minutes.

The Data Protection Act 2018 was explained in detail.

Relevant planning applications were noted and the date of the next meeting on April 10 was given.

Some members of Aston Against HS2 were present and their spokesman gave a detailed report of recent changes concerning the route of the planned railway, also pointing out there would be a great deal of upheaval due to construction work in the old village of Aston in future if the Eastern route was adhered to.

The Annual Parish Meeting began 7.30pm.

The proposed travellers’ site was reported to have been refused by RMBC.

The chairperson gave a report including approval of the previous year’s meeting minutes and referred to the government cuts affecting leisure activities, also how she had helped in the design of the mosaics at Ulley Country Park spillway.

Action Against HS2 had the full backing of the parish councillors.

Bonfire Night had been a well attended event and the council had received letters of appreciation from the public.

The council was congratulated on the floral displays through the summer months and Christmas decorations around the parish were appreciated.

During the bad winter weather the council handymen had gritted the pathways at Windy Ridge Elderly Persons Centre.

The Aston Carnival had run smoothly thanks to volunteers. Cricket and fishing competitions were successful.  

The service at the war memorial was well attended.

The General Purpose Committee had helped local groups in the parish including the History Group’s Heritage Weekend in September.

The Parish Natter proves to be a well read magazine.

The clerk gave details of charity accounts and especially the maintenance issue.

The Reading Room was said to have been used well by various groups since its renovation in April 2005.

Necessary extensions to Swallownest Cemetery will take place in years to come.

The Bowling Club now has over 80 members.

Maintenance of the church clock and the memorial clock at Aughton Early Years was mentioned and other items which came under the parish council’s maintenance responsibility were discussed. The chair said she is to do a wing walk on May 26 in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and a mental health charity.

The meeting closed 8.30pm.
