Artists needed for Dearne Valley showcase

CALLING all painters, potters, poets (and many more besides) — your town needs you for a showcase of the Dearne Valley’s special arts skills.

Goldthorpe will host its first ever arts festival in September, with a wealth of groups having already signed up to make it happen and put the fruits of the town’s talents on display.

It is the brainchild of Julie Turner from Goldthorpe Pentecostal Church, who is now in the thick of planning the two-day event.

Free workshops showcasing different arts and crafts and will be held weekly from the end of July in Goldthorpe, Bolton on Dearne and Thurnscoe, building towards the festival itself on September 1 and 2 at the Dearne Playhouse.

The final event will be a chance for people to exhibit their work and join in with different activities.

Goldthorpe and Bolton on Dearne Big Local support worker April Fisher said the group had agreed to part-fund the festival, adding: “If it is a success, it is hoped that it can become an annual event.

“We want to make this festival a huge success but we do need help and participation from people so if you feel you can get involved in any way at all please get in touch with Julie.
