All councillors claimed full amount

PUBLISHED without comment in the Advertiser’s public notices on July 31 were this year’s Rotherham councillors’ allowances for 2014/15

For your readers who missed it £1,054,000 was claimed by your 63 councillors.

That means an average of £16,700 per councillor for a role the Local Government Association says should take 20 hours per week so an average hourly rate of £16 per hour.

In Rotherham Council’s standing orders there is a provision for councillors to decline all or part of their allowances so the amount claimed up to the maximum is the responsibility for each individual councillor.

Every single councillor of every political shade on the council claimed their full amount.

I would advise your readers to remember this  very time they encounter (if they ever do) their local representatives.
