Alan steps up to be the school governor's governer!

Mr Richards (51), chairman of the governors at Wickersley School and Sports College, is one of the first people in the country to be appointed as a National Leader of Governance.

He will be coaching other governors, providing extra support for heads of struggling schools or aiding staff with plans to become a federation or converting to academy status.

Mr Richards said: “Working as a chairman of governors at an outstanding school has been a real privilege for me and is also very rewarding.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to support others in the role and to help them to maximise the positive impact that their governing body can have in the lives of the children at their school.
