A WOMAN had to be airlifted to hospital after being hit by a car.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called to the incident on Corporation Street at around 5.45pm on Thursday and landed on the site of the former Tesco supermarket on Forge Island.

South Yorkshire Police said a red Renault Clio had collided with a pedestrian.

The 31-year-old woman sustained minor injuries.

Corporation Street was closed at the time of the incident but later reopened.
