A Bollywood extravaganza is heading our way

A BOLLYWOOD dance theatre extravaganza is expected to light up the stage later this month.

Bring On The Bollywood is coming to Doncaster’s Cast Theatre from Wednesday, May 31, to Friday, June 2.

The story is based on classic comedy plays She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith and Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, and is inspired by classic Indian cinema and the extravagance of Bollywood.

The 14-strong cast includes classically trained British TV and theatre stars including Rohit Gokani and Sakuntala Ramanee.

Director Samir Bhamra said: “Bollywood is widely perceived to be a low-brow artform that requires no skill. Not only is it, in my experience, the hardest artform to crack, but it shares more than people realise with the classical Western arts.

“Bollywood would not exist if it were not for Shakespeare being presented in British India, and soon adapted into local languages for the wider communities. Both traditions teach us valuable lessons about people and life, and that’s why they continue to connect so well.”

Tickets for Bring on the Bollywood — which begins at 7.30pm each night with a Thursday matinee at 2.30pm — cost £18.50 or £16.50 for concessions and the matinee. They are available by calling 01302 303959 or visiting castindoncaster.com.
