DETECTIVES believe a Vietnamese boy spotted by a member of the public looking through bins for food may be the victim of modern slavery.

The teenager was spotted in Coronation Park, Maltby, at around 8.44am on Tuesday, July 5.

Police were called and took the boy, who is believed to be around 17-years-old, to a place of safety.

Temporary Det Insp Graham Stead, who is overseeing the investigation, said: “We are grateful to the member of public who spotted that something wasn’t quite right and contacted us.

“We are in the early stages of the investigation however we are not ruling out the possibility that this boy is a victim of modern slavery which is why we are asking for the public’s help.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen him either around Maltby or further afield, overnight and into Tuesday morning.

“He is described as having dark spikey hair, of slim build, around 5ft 6ins, wearing grey jogging bottoms and a black puffer jacket.”

Anyone with any information or who may have seen a boy matching the descripton should contact police on 101, quoting the incident number 202 of July 5.
