VIDEO: Playground sweethearts Katie and Ollie, 7, "tie the knot"

IT had flowers, a cake and even confetti — but Katie Leong and Ollie Tranmer’s was a wedding with a difference.

The bride and groom are both aged seven and their nuptials were dreamed up to allow the  at Herringthorpe Infant School lovebirds to declare their devotion before being “split up” and going into different classes.

The service was performed by radio DJ Big John of Hallam FM, who donned a dog collar to invite the “couple” to declare their undying love “unless someone better comes along”.

Katie said she liked “everything” about Ollie, while her “boyfriend” classmate said she was “funny”.

Hallam FM producer James Crookes said: “We were planning how to mark the end of school term, when a listener told us of her seven-year-old daughter, who will be split up from her ‘boyfriend’ next year as they'll be in different classes.

“It turned out little Katie and Ollie are beyond cute and hilarious, too.

“We decided to celebrate their young love with a “wedding that’s not a wedding” and people came forward to help — a local florist, cake maker and wedding singer all got involved.

“Big John was the vicar, co-presenter Liesl the bridesmaid and I was the best man.”

Kate and Ollie’s “honeymoon” was an expenses-paid to Manchester, hotel accommodation and tickets to the Summer Live concert for them and

their families.

The primary school pairing, who both live in Herringthorpe, may be parted come September when they start at Herringthorpe Juniors, but Katie’s mum Lucy insisted: “They will still be playing together at break time — it’ll take a lot more to keep them apart.”
