Two pensioners killed in crash with lorry

TWO pensioners died after the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry.

A white Lexus CT 200 was in collision with a white DAF lorry at the junction of Lee Lane and Whams Road, in the Crow Edge area of Barnsley, at around 10.25am on Thursday.

The driver of the Lexus —a 77-year-old man from Rotherham — and a 68-year-old passenger, also from Rotherham — died at the scene.

Police said the Lexus was travelling along Lee Lane from Millhouse Green and the lorry was travelling on Whams Road (A616) towards Barnsley.

The lorry driver — a 38-year-old man from Worksop — suffered minor leg injuries.

Police said the families of both men have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.
