Tributes to ex-footballer who was a ‘true gentleman’

FRIENDS and family of a former footballer who has died on his 45th birthday from heart disease will pay tribute to him with a charity match in his memory.

Richard Fieldsend died last Friday after a long battle with a heart condition.

The ex-semi-professional player had taken part in a campaign video for the British Heart Foundation to help fund research into a cure.

Now Richard, who lived in Eastwood, will be remembered with a charity match for the BHF between two teams of friends and relatives at the “Bag Inn” pitch next to Silverwood Miners’ Welfare on Saturday, May 25.

Richard was described in one friend’s tribute as “a true gentleman”.

His funeral will be at Rotherham Crematorium at Herringthorpe at 9.45am on Monday. The charity match in his memory is at 2pm next Saturday.
