Motorists fined for disabled badge misuse

PARKING enforcement action has been taken against a further two people as the borough council tackle the blight of blue badge fraud.

The pair of successful prosecutions were carried out by Rotherham Borough Council during a hearing at Rotherham Magistrates Court last Wednesday, October 14.

Tariq Ibrahim, of Oxley Grove, Rotherham, was convicted of using his father's disabled parking badge to park his car on Howard Street, Rotherham, in April, while his father was not present.

Martin Beard, parking services manager for the borough council, said: “These are further examples of blue badges being used for the convenience of people who are not entitled to use them.

“Both cases involved the badges being used to avoid parking charges which are not expensive in Rotherham in the first place.

“If we catch drivers using blue badges without the named holder present, we will continue to prosecute where it is in the public interest to do so.”
