Major Rotherham motorway route to be closed for two weeks

MOTORISTS are being warned that a major route between Rotherham and the M1 motorway is to be closed overnight for nearly a fortnight from next week.

From Monday, April 7, until Friday, April 18, the A6178 Sheffield Road at Templeborough will be closed from 8.30 pm until 6 am on Mondays to Fridays. The closure — from the Ickles roundabout to the roundabout at Bessemer Way — is to allow for resurfacing works by Rotherham Borough Council as part of the BusRapidTransit North scheme, a new high-speed bus service running between the centres of Rotherham and Sheffield.

The works will be carried out by the contractor for the scheme, BAM Nuttall, and a diversion route will use the lower deck of the Tinsley viaduct, Meadowbank Road, New Wortley Road and Centenary Way.
