Tour de France gives Rotherham a swerve

TOUR de France champion Bradley Wiggins and his fellow cycling stars will NOT be coming to Rotherham after the town was left out of the route of a Yorkshire stage of the famous race.

The 2014 tour will take in York, Leeds, Huddersfield and Sheffield but Rotherham’s own charms have been overlooked by race planners in route details released yesterday.

The second of two stages in the Yorkshire region will finish in Sheffield after passing through Keighley, Huddersfield and Holmfirth.

Mexborough has also been left off the list — news which will come as a disappointment to Labour leader Ed Miliband, who said last year that he hoped the three-week race might pass through his constituency.
