Top prize for Rotherham scooter fan

A scooter enthusiast who spent months rebuilding his prized “wheels” is riding high after scooping a top prize in a national contest.

Robert Cox (36) of Whiston, was presented with the Best in Custom Show award at the National Scooter Rally in Cleethorpes, after he rebuilt and modified a 1961 Lambretta scooter.

He said: “I started rebuilding and modifying the scooter in October last year through a personal ambition.

“I wanted to see if I could successfully fit a nitrous oxide kit on a classic scooter.

“A few people in the past have attempted this modification, but no one other than myself that I know of has completed the task with success.”

The fitting of the nitrous oxide kit gives the scooter a power boost, with a potential top speed of around 80mph.

Robert was given the award, which is presented in memory of a fellow rider, ahead of more than 30 other entrants following a vote by the other scooter riders at the rally.
