Ten-year-old crash girl "stable"

A ten-year-old girl seriously hurt after being involved in a collision while attempting to cross a busy road was yesterday said to be in a “stable condition.”

Anston Greenlands Junior School pupil Ellie Duce suffered a fractured skull and a broken left arm and leg in the collision on Nursery Road, Dinnington, just before 1pm on Tuesday.

 

Her injuries were initially believed to be life-threatening but a police spokesman confirmed yesterday that she was now in stable at Sheffield Children's Hospital and responding well to surgery.

The police spokesman said: “She is no longer in a life-threatening condition. Her condition is now stable and she is responding well to surgery.”

 

It is understood that Ellie’s parents, Beverly and Geoff Duce, were at the youngster’s bedside this week as she made her recovery in hospital in Sheffield.

 

Well-wishers have flocked to post messages on Facebook wishing Ellie a speedy recovery.

 

Police have issued an appeal for information about the incident on Nursery Road, in which  the driver of the Volvo, a 40-year-old woman, escaped uninjured.

Witnesses to the collision are being urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 0114 220 2020 quoting incident number 401 of 19/4/11.
