Teenager killed in morning crash

A TEENAGER from Rotherham died in a road collision on Saturday.

He was one of two people to lose their lives in the incident on Blackburn Road, Wincobank.

Joshua Fothergill (19) died when the Astra in which he was travelling was in collision with a Peugeot at about 1am.

Nineteen-year-old Liam Parkin, from Sheffield, who was travelling in the Peugeot, also died at the scene.

Three other men inside the Peugeot – a 24-year-old from Rotherham, an 18-year-old from Rotherham and a 21-year-old man – needed hospital treatment. Two were later discharged.

Floral tributes to the two men who died were left at the scene.

One read: “You will always be in our hearts. You shouldn’t have been taken away from us like this...”

A 20-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident, has been released on bail.

Police officers want to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw either vehicle before the collision.

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 82 of December 20.
