Table tennis youngsters' big day

A TEAM of table tennis hot-shots have battled their way through to a major final.

The youngsters from Bramley Sunyside Junior School will compete in the national schools championship in Leicestershire next week and, says coach Mick Barlow: “I’m delighted with their achievements.”

Bramley had to fight their way through the local and regional rounds before securing their place on the big day in Hinckley on March 19.

They booked their ticket after beating Newark’s Taverham Hall School 5-3 in Sunday’s shootout at Grantham Leisure Centre and will now face three other crack teams as they look to land the trophy.

Said Mick: “They’ve had to work really hard to achieve what they have and now they’re through to the final.

“There will be some tough opposition but even if we finish fourth I think the lads have done superbly well just to be there.

“It will be really hard to win the title because some of the schools we are up against have much more resources than we have but we’ll have a good go.”

The team is Edmund Lau, Ryan Ngan, Joseph Saxton, Joshua Drake and Alex Pierpoint.
