Spate of vehicle fires across the borough

FIRE crews dealt with several vehicle fires across the borough over the weekend.

Rotherham station was called to the first incident in Hooton Roberts on Saturday at 2.35pm.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) said the van, on Howdike Lane, was well alight when the crew from Rotherham station attended.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, the spokeswoman added.

A Volkswagen Polo was deliberately torched on Sunday at 12.05pm on East Field Lane, Laughton.

A crew from Maltby station was at the scene for 45 minutes.

Arsonists struck again at 8.35pm on Dalton Lane, East Herringthorpe, when a Peugeot 206 was set alight.

Rotherham station was at the scene for 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, crews from Rotherham and Dearne station attended a property on Avenue Road, Wath, after an oven caught fire

The blaze was out by the time firefighters arrived and the house was ventilated by the crews.
