Sorry for Swinton Community Gala call-off

GALA organisers have apologised to the community after weather reports forced them to call off the event.

Swinton Community Gala was due to take place on Sunday, June 23 featuring around 80 stalls including locally produced crafts, food, clothing and gifts.

But disappointed members of the Swinton Sports and Health Group made the call on Friday after seeing a Met Office forecast for high winds and heavy rainfall.

A spokesman for the organisers said: “A range of marquees, staging, inflatables, generators and stalls would have to have been put in place to make the day a success and numerous weather forecasts advising of gales and much rainfall over the weekend was the final deciding issue.

“We are very sorry that we were not able to bring the community together in a positive way on this occasion as this was our main intention along with raising funds for some very good causes.”
