Shopkeeper injured in attempted armed robbery

A MASKED robber — armed with a gun — attacked a shopkeeper leaving him with injuries to his face during an attempted robbery.

The man entered Majeed Stores, in Adwick Road, Mexborough, at around 7.50pm yesterday.

He threatened staff and demanded cash before assaulting a member of staff, causing minor injuries to his face.

Police said it believed the man “may have been carrying a firearm”.

The suspect left the shop empty-handed and ran along Kings Road before taking a right on to Pym Road.

Detectives have now released a CCTV image of man they would like to speak in connection with the incident as well as an image of car they believe was in the area prior to the incident.
