School’s out for Rotherham teachers for final time

THE BELL rang for the final time for some of Rotherham’s longest-serving teachers and school staff when their pupils broke up for the summer.

School’s out forever — to quote rocker Alice Cooper — for Wingfield Academy teacher Glyn Johnson, who has taught over 8,000 students during a 46-year career which began  straight out of teacher training college in 1969.

Also calling it a day was Kilnhurst St Thomas Primary School Karen Brammer, who has manned the helm for 30 years.

Just down the road, Kilnhurst Primary School’s Foundation 1 Class teacher Jill Sanderson retired after 19 years and nursery nurse, Sue Trout, after 40 years.

Sitwell Infant School headteacher Jane Skupien and teacher Val Penycate also retired last Friday after serving nine and 14 years respectively.
