RSPCA plea for information in Rotherham pet poisoning probe

POLICE are investigating a spate of alleged pet poisonings on a Rotherham road.

A dog and three cats have so far died of symptoms which a vet says are the effects of anti-freeze poisoning, within 25 yards of each other on Eldon Road, Eastwood, in the space of three weeks.

A spokeswoman for the South Rotherham Safer Neighbourhood Team said enquiries had been made and only one animal had been confirmed as being poisoned by anti-freeze.

Residents say the animals have been deliberately killed.

There was no evidence as yet to suggest that it was deliberate.

Leanne Plumtree, from the RSPCA, said: “Anti-freeze poisoning causes a terrible and painful death.

“An inspector has been to the street where she has spoken to some of the owners and their neighbours and local businesses.

“Where there is evidence that someone has done this deliberately the RSPCA won’t hesitate in seeking to prosecute.

“Anyone with any specific information should call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999 and ask to leave a message for inspector Sandra Dransfield.”
