Rotherham students get to work on horror film zombies

ROTHERHAM College students were up their elbows in blood and gore as they turned 80 extras into zombies for a new horror film being shot in South Yorkshire.

More than 20 make-up students from Rotherham College of Arts and Technology worked on locally-produced shocker The Dying Breed, which was being filmed in Chapeltown.

With the help of hair and beauty lecturers Anne Derbyshire, Christine Smallman and Kelly Carr, the students spend four hours applying fake scabs, wounds and blood to the zombies.

The film is  the second part of a trilogy of zombie films written and directed by Damian Morter.

The college’s makeup team took part after seeing a local advert looking for volunteers to work on the film.

Anne Derbyshire said: “I felt that this type of experience would be excellent for our department and our students. Safehouse Pictures UK came across as a forward thinking, motivated company and as it was been filmed around Sheffield it was the perfect opportunity to get involved.”

Level 3 Media Makeup student, Rebecca Beresford said: “I found this a good experience of working very quickly under pressure with lots of different people.”
