Rotherham solicitors ‘hoove’ it for charity

A TEAM from a solicitors are preparing for “bruised hooves” after their 85-mile charity trek to Flamborough Head.

Sarah Martin, Sharon Bradford, Alexa Wortley and Hester Russell are taking on the challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Their team name — Gallant Women Bruised Hooves — borrows the initials of GWBHarthills, the law firm where they work.

Alexa said: “We have all lost close friends and family to cancer and although we cannot find a cure ourselves we can at least help fund those who can.

“Eighty-five miles may be a long way but it will be worth every step if we can in some way help fight this disease. What’s a few blisters compared to what some people fighting cancer go through?”

The fundraisers will set off from Sheffield Crown Court early on June 2, call at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court and then on to the first overnight stop at Barnby Dun.

The rest of the four-day trek will be via Shiptonthorpe, near Howden, then to Driffield and arriving at Flambrough Lighthouse on June 5.

Legal advisor Alexa said: “It’s said that all the best ideas are hatched in the pub after work but not this one.

“Somehow liking Flamborough Head and liking Sunday afternoon walks resulted in our team being formed.

“We’re pretty determined. Up to now we have raised well over our target of £1,000 and there are still a few weeks to go.

“We are receiving immense support from the partners and staff at both our Sheffield and Rotherham offices and they are providing the sponsorship which has allowed us to do all this.”

“We are all busy training at the moment and hoping that the weather will be kind to us when we take our first steps.”

The Gallant Women will be supported by colleagues Michael Willis, Michael Whitworth, Mike Jones and Liz Lord, accompanying the team with food and clothes.
