Rotherham mum marks partner’s health victory with marathon celebration

A ROTHERHAM mum will celebrate her partner’s victory in battling leukaemia by making her own marathon effort later this month.

Toni Robinson (25) is taking on the London Marathon on April 24 for blood cancer charity Bloodwise to mark the treatment undergone by Kane ... after he was diagnosed at age 26 in January 2014.

Toni said: “I was 17 weeks pregnant and in my third year of teacher training when Kane and I received the news that would change our lives.

“Kane had pneumonia, his liver was failing and he had leukaemia. He was immediately admitted to hospital, had three blood transfusions and began a course of antibiotics for his liver.

“Three days later Kane started his first gruelling course of chemotherapy.”

Toni said the chemotherapy proved tough but the ordeal had brought the family together.

Kane, who returned home two weeks before the couple’s daughter, Quinn, was born, has been in remission for two years and Toni has since gone on to complete her degree.

Toni added: “Despite being a keen runner I had never dreamt of running a marathon but when the opportunity came about I knew I had to raise as much money for Bloodwise.”
