Rotherham MPs celebrate Yorkshire Day

ROTHERHAM’S three MPs are celebrating Yorkshire Day today by greeting their constituents in the town centre.

Sarah Champion, John Healey and Sir Kevin Barron are manning a Yorkshire Day stall in Effingham Street in Rotherham town centre from 11am to 1pm, which they say will be “celebrating the best of Yorkshire past, present, and future”.

They aim to highlight Rotherham's status as a key steel provider, with aircraft reliant on Rotherham steel taking off or landing every five seconds round the world.

Ms Champion will be joined by local residents and young people from her summer school.

She said: “Yorkshire Day is a great opportunity for us to celebrate our region. For me, our greatest asset is our people.

“We have a proud industrial heritage, an exciting advanced manufacturing future and a strong sense of community.

“Yorkshire has had disproportionate Government cuts these last four years. Labour has committed to devolve £20 billion to the regions, allowing Yorkshire to decide how best to invest in our future.”
