ROTHER VALLEY

Kevin Barron (Labour)

With less than a week until the General Election, it is clear that there is a huge amount at stake in this election for the people of Rother Valley.

At the moment, this country isn’t working for the working people of Rother Valley. The Tories’ plan is failing because they only stand up for a privileged few. They’ve given millionaires a tax break but left hardworking families £1,600 a year worse off. Our NHS is in crisis, tuition fees have been trebled and there are fewer opportunities for our young people.

UKIP’s policies would make things harder, not easier, for working people in Britain.

It has been a great honour to have served the people of Rother Valley for over 30 years as their representative in Parliament. Throughout this time I have raised numerous issues on their behalf, including helping to recoup over £300,000 that was wrongly taken from miners’ compensation schemes. If re-elected I will continue to fight for the people of Rother Valley with any issue that they raise.

This election is about choosing a future that is fair for you and not just the wealthy at the top. Don’t risk another five years of a Tory Government. Only a Labour government will put the people of Rother Valley first and I ask that you vote for a better future and vote Labour on Thursday.

Allen Cowles (UKIP)

I am standing for UKIP because it has policies that represent the wishes of the people.

As a party, it is made up of ordinary people fed up with the same old Labour party who have failed us all. The manifesto is beyond reproach; it is fully costed and independently verified, a first in British politics.

My intention is to be a constituency MP, not a career politician. I was born in Wath, I have lived most of my life in the area and in Whiston for the past 28 years. Above all else I would aim to put Rother Valley and South Yorkshire first, second and third while in office, and I intend to remain in close contact with the town while being an MP.

My two priorities will be the young and the elderly. I believe in social mobility for the young, regardless of background. This has been stifled under Labour. I would intend to work closely with business, our two universities and local schools to inspire our young people to aim high and be the best that they can be. We need to be informing them what opportunities there are, not waiting until they have made the wrong choices.

Our elderly have paid for the welfare state we all enjoy and taking away their benefits while giving to other countries is mean and narrow minded and I will try to reverse this trend.

Our current MP has been in place 32 years. It’s time for a change.

Gareth Streeter (Conservatives)

I am a 32-year-old charity campaigner who has worked across the country, including South Yorkshire, fighting for a society where everyone can make the best of themselves regardless of their starting point.

Having been selected to fight Rother Valley for the Conservatives, I have launched a positive campaign focusing on continuing to fix the economy so that there is a job for everyone that wants one, calling on all schools in Rother Valley to be good or outstanding by 2020 and working with local councillors to cut through bureaucracy and better deliver basic services.

Believing that now more than ever, we need a fresh approach to our local democracy both locally in the borough of Rotherham, and at a national level, I have pledged and delivered a positive campaign free of political back-biting, name-calling and scare-mongering, and instead focused on the positive message that the Conservative party can deliver the safety, security and stability that will allow everyone to flourish. I seek to be part of the journey that is so desperately needed to revive hope in our local democracy.

Electing me would demonstrate to the world how the constituency has moved on from the old days and old ways.

I would ensure media interest focused on economic opportunities and quality of life, instead of having to answer questions on what part I played (or didn’t play) in the child-grooming scandal.

I’ve a record of fighting for Rotherham people. As Liberal Democrat candidate for police and crime commissioner I fought against Shaun Wright.

I have in-depth knowledge of Rother Valley and Rotherham. I’m a director of Rotherham Enterprise Agency Limited, a social enterprise with the mission of helping Rotherham businesses start-up and then grow.

I’m helping campaign to keep the proposed HS2 railway station at Meadowhall instead of The Wicker.

During the 90s, I worked with unemployed adults in Rotherham, showing me how unemployment diminished individuals and how the system made unemployment pay more than work.

I sat as a magistrate in South Yorkshire for three years.

I worked for the NHS in Sheffield when Labour were in power and saw frontline staff let down and money wasted fulfilling Government targets instead of focusing on caring.

With a degree in business, strategy, finance and economics, I can talk the language of business, to business to bring employment to the area.

I am a South Yorkshire business owner with 30 years experience.

Rother Valley can break with the past and look forward to the future with me as MP.

Sharon Pilling (English Democrats)

I’m honoured to have been selected to stand as your English Democrat candidate for Rother Valley.

Rotherham is a great place to live, but the present politician’s policies are rapidly changing this.

It’s time for change and to elect an MP who puts you, the residents, first. The English Democrats are campaigning for an English parliament as England is the only nation within the UK which hasn’t got dedicated representation.

I will be campaigning to have a referendum on leaving the EU. If we stopped subsidising the EU and the rest of the UK we would save £58 billion a year. This could be spent on improving the NHS.

There wouldn’t be a housing crisis if it wasn’t for uncontrolled immigration. This is also destroying our wonderful countryside. Once it is gone, it is gone forever.

I would campaign to end the scandal of foreign aid and replace it with emergency aid. The present politicians should hang their heads in shame that around 25,000 pensioners are dying every year due to cold-related illness while they are giving away English taxes to countries who have their own space programmes.

I will campaign to promote English culture and identity. English history should be taught in schools. Our children should be proud of our achievements. St George’s Day should be a public holiday with organised celebrations up and down our country.

Vote English, Vote English Democrats — putting England first!
