Ride your bike to work - plea

COMMUTERS in Rotherham are being urged to use pedal power to get to work tomorrow.

National Cycle to Work Day is held to coincide with children going back to school and encourages more people to take two wheels to work or class.

Cyclists are urged to ride positively, decisively and keep well clear of the kerb, as well as protecting themselves by wearing a correctly fitted cycle helmet and by using high visibility clothing or accessories.

Joanne Wehrle, the interim Safer Roads Partnership Manager said: “Cycling is one of the easiest ways to fit exercise into your daily routine because it's also a form of transport.

“It saves you money, gets you fit and is good for the environment. For those people who are cycling for the first time or who aren't confident, cycle skills training is available across South Yorkshire.

“The Safer Roads Partnership team will also be visiting popular cycle commuter routes across South Yorkshire through the week. They will be handing out free cycle packs to cyclists containing a high visibility vest and cycle safety information.”
