Ram raid on Brinsworth shop

LOTTERY scratch cards have been stolen from a supermarket after it was ram raided in the early hours of the morning.

The robbery happened at Tesco Express on Brinsworth Lane, Brinsworth at around 1.35am on Wednesday.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “A vehicle is believed to have been driven into the door and window of the store, causing the glass to come away from the frame.

“A man then ran into the store and stole a quantity of lottery scratch cards before getting back into the car and fleeing the scene in the direction of Pringle Road.

“Officers would like to speak to anyone who believes they may have seen any suspicious people in the area prior to the incident, or noticed any unfamiliar vehicles to please come forward.”

A Tesco spokesman said: “We were shocked to hear of this incident and very glad that no one was hurt.

“We’re assisting the police with their investigation and our colleagues have worked hard to ensure we can continue to serve customers.”

The spokesman said the shop reopened at 8am on Wednesday but may have to shut for around an hour to repair the door frame.

He added: “We are currently unable to sell scratch cards as a result of the incident.”
