Railway death “not suspicious”

THE DEATH of a man who died after being struck by a train at a disused railway station is not being treated as suspicious

The 77-year-old man was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital after the incident on Tuesday evening at about 7.30pm.

The death occurred at the former Masborough station and caused disruption to services.

An inquest is to be opened after medical tests have been carried out.

The identity of the dead man has not yet been released.

A British Transport Police spokesman said BTP and South Yorkshire Police officers and Yorkshire Ambulance Service paramedics were called to the scene of the incident, which was “not being treated as suspicious”.

Masborough railway station — misnamed by transport officials in the 1900s — closed in October 1988 and only the platforms remain of the original structure.
