Puppy love on a grand scale

Jordan (25), of Wickersley, is currently at the Tianmeng Kung Fu Academy, in Feixian, in the Shandong Province.

He hopes to complete his Dans in taekwondo having achieved his black belt as a youngster.

But it is not his sporting achievements that’s keeping him awake at night \_ it’s the target of raising £9,000 to bring two neglected dogs \_ Hugo and Henry \_ home with him.

Jordan said: “The life of a dog in China is not an easy life. These two puppies arrived at our academy as pups at around three-weeks-old in February.

“An elderly man from the village came into the Academy courtyard, carrying Hugo and Henry over his shoulder in a potato sack.

“When they arrived the boys were far too young to be away from their mother and with temperatures of around -18ºC, I’m not exaggerating when I say that if not for a lot of work from fellow students, the pups wouldn’t have survived the winter.”

Jordan, who will leave the academy in January 2017, said the £9,000 target would help cover the dogs travel, vaccinations and treatment to allow him to bring them back to the UK.

He said: “Not everyone in China mistreats dogs but I’m very attached to Hugo and Henry and would rather take them away from here so there is no risk of any such things occuring to them.

“Having been with the boys since they were little pups, watching them grow, and caring for them I have grown incredibly attached to them and would hate to leave them behind.”

Jordan said he needs to raise the money by December so that he can pay for their transport in advance of coming back to the UK in January.

He said: “I know £9,000 is an incredibly large sum of money, so any donations at all, we will be incredibly thankful for.”
