Public asked to help identify £10m cuts

A SERIES of public meetings are being arranged about plans to axe 140 fire service jobs and shut several stations due to a £10 million Government funding cuts.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority is calling for alternative suggestions about how to make savings and is inviting the public to four meetings in Sheffield, with more planned for Edlington and Royston.

The Fire Brigades’ Union has criticised the plans, which would see 68 full-time and 32 part-time posts cut and Darnall, Mansfield Road, and Mosborough fire stations closing.
