A SAFETY probe is under way after a construction worker was crushed to death on a cricket ground.

Philip Carsley, of Thurnscoe, was hit by a concrete block while working on spectator stands at the Rose Bowl, near Southampton.

An air ambulance was called at about 2pm on Monday, but the 34-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hampshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive have both confirmed that an investigation is under way.
