Thrybergh car wash gets the blues as Rotherham Council planners see red...

A CAR wash has been forced to ditch its bright blue paint job after intervention from Rotherham Council.

After a resident’s query about the colour scheme on the walls at Oldgate Lane in Thrybergh, it emerged that planning permission for the business had expired more than a year earlier.

Miltol Ltd filed a new application in late 2022 asking for the use of the former police station site for five more years.

There were four objections, including from Thrybergh Parish Council.

These called the blue “garish” and “hideous”.

RMBC allowed the continued use of the site as a car wash — but added a condition that the wall must either be kept to its natural stone or painted cream.

One resident said: “It’s absolutely disgusting that the council and parish council have made that car wash change its colour from bright blue to a horrid cream colour.

“All car washes are bright or dark blues, reds, greens, yellows, etc.

“All that guy’s done is try to make his business look good and nice.”

The borough council said the condition relating to colour was added “in the interests of the visual amenity of the site”.
