Rother Valley Labour candidate Jake to complete Sheffield half marathon for Bluebell Wood

A POLITICAL candidate will be pulling on his running shoes for a half-marathon in aid of Bluebell Wood.

Jake Richards, Labour’s contender for the Rother Valley seat, is taking part in the Sheffield half marathon on Sunday to raise funds for the children’s hospice.

So far, the would-be MP has raised over £600.

Jake said he was keen to do his bit for a place which symbolises community spirit.

“I want to do my bit for Bluebell Wood who perform inspiring work with children and families,” he added..

“What we sometimes don’t recognise is the work they have to do behind the scenes to raise funds to carry on.

“A huge proportion of their funding is through private donations.

“So I thought, well what can I do to help?

“I need to keep fit for the campaign ahead so I thought I’d get my running shoes out.

“Bluebell Wood is very well-known across Rotherham and, indeed, South Yorkshire — so many people talk about the vital work they do for those that need it the most or they have a connection or story about it.

“I think it says something about the community here when families and young people need us the most, there is this incredible service which receives so much support locally from volunteers and donations.

“It’s become a symbol of the community spirit here.”

The half marathon starts at 9.30am on Sunday.
