Mowbray Gardens Library to be closed for a week to install the self-service technology

MOWBRAY Gardens will close for a week to install self-service technology allowing visits outside normal library hours.

The Open+ system allows more flexible opening times by extending access for members without need for staff presence.

It will mean customers can access the library building after hours to borrow and return books, pick up reservations, meet with community groups, and access computers and wifi.

Rotherham Council will trial the set-up from March, as part of a £7.4 million package of improvements across the borough’s 15 libraries.

Mowbray Gardens will close from March 13 for a week — reopening with the new technology from March 20.

Cllr Dave Sheppard, cabinet member social inclusion, said: “At a time when many other councils are having to close libraries, we are delighted to introduce a new service which enhances the library offer and provides the opportunity for the library to be accessible to our residents for more hours each week.”

Brinsworth’s library will also be taking part in the pilot project, which could be extended to others in the future.

Customers wishing to use services during Mowbray Gardens’ closure are welcome at any of the other libraries or access the online library at www.rotherham.gov.uk/libraries.
