Community effort cleans up Dalton Brook

TRAFFIC cones, a bike – and the typical shopping trolley – were pulled from Dalton Brook during a much-needed clean-up.

Volunteers came from as far as Swinton to help the efforts.

Cllr Michael Bennett-Sylvester, RMBC ward member for Dalton & Thrybergh, said: “A few weeks back I had a site visit with the council’s Love Where You Live Service who, in answer to the complex land ownership and that RMBC are not responsible for cleaning the brook, came up with the solution of using volunteers from the Don Valley River Catchment Trust and the wider community.

“It was a great team effort and as well as the guys organising, thank you to Dalton Parish Council, RotherFed, the local neighbourhood team and the brilliant volunteers.

“More importantly with the advice and help we got from the trust, we can start on a programme to develop local volunteers to help keep the brook and other local streams free.”
