Police to target foreign criminals on roads

POLICE are taking part in work targeting foreign criminals using UK road networks for cross-border crimes like modern slavery.

Officers from the local policing and specialist support teams linked with other forces and law enforcement agencies on Operation Trivium.

They have been performing stop checks this week.

Chief Insp Glen Suttenwood, operations manager for joint specialist ops, said: “Criminal activity such as modern slavery is a serious issue that affects vulnerable people who may be at risk of exploitation.

“Working collectively with different agencies allows a proactive approach to be taken.”

There were 9,009 vehicles stopped and 361 arrests made across South Yorkshire during last year’s operation.
