PICTURE GALLERY: Police out in force for far-right rally

SCORES of far-right English Defence League protesters faced off against the police in Rotherham town centre on Saturday.

The demonstrators, many of them wearing masks and most thought to be from outside Rotherham, were accompanied on a march through the town centre by police before stopping in All Saints’ Square.

A counter-rally was held by the Unite Against Facism group in Minster Gardens.

Police and council officials said the day passed peacefully and all but a few shops stayed open.
