A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the kitchen fire was started after the occupants left an on oven hob on with a box next to it which caught fire.

She added: “No-one was inside the property apart from the dog.

“Crews went in and rescued the semi-conscious dog, outside they administered oxygen and resuscitated the dog.

“The crews were fantastic.”

When the owners returned the dog was taken to the vet for a check-up and is believed to be doing well.

Firefighters left the scene at 10pm.
