What’s your ‘Golden Idea’ to help Rotherham Council save cash?

COUNCIL chiefs are asking for the public’s “golden ideas” to help decide how to slash £40 million from their budget in two years.

Rotherham Borough Council yesterday announced a five-week consultation into how to make the cuts, which come after £70 million was slashed from the budget in the past three years.

Residents are asked to suggest how the council can be more efficient and say if they should focus on the most needy or ensure everyone still benefits from the council’s budget.

The council’s strategic director of development, Karl Battersby, said: “There may well be some golden ideas out there that help us deliver services in a more economical way.”

The consultation, which starts on Monday and runs until the end of November, invites members of the public to go online at www.rotherham.gov.uk/budget.

It features an online forum, where ideas can be discussed.
