A group spokesman said their hard work and contribution over the years had been appreciated and would be missed.

Mr StJohn said: “Over 30 years I’ve seen positive improvements in both the environment and in the quality of people's lives.

“I enjoyed my time, and worked hard for the public I represented.  Now it’s time for others to carry on the work.”

Mr Littleboy said he would continue to be an activist in his community, adding: “I may have retired but I haven't gone away.”

Mrs Austen said: “It’s been a privilege to represent Holderness ward for the past ten years. I wish all my former colleagues, both at borough and parish level, all the best for what will be a challenging future.”
