Top ref Howard’s cards go misisng at hospice fundraiser

A VALUABLE piece of football memorabilia went missing at a fundraising event in aid of a Rotherham charity.

Millers fan Kevin Johnson said a Legends Night fundraiser for Rotherham Hospice had turned sour after former Premier League referee Howard Webb’s 2010 Champions League Final red and yellow cards went walkabout.

The cards had sold for £200 during the charity event.

The fundraiser was organised by Kevin alongside Millers legend John Breckin at New York Stadium and featured former stars Alan Lee, Chris Sedgewick, Andy Monkhouse and Ronnie Moore, raising over £11,000.

But Kevin was dismayed to find Howard’s cards had disappeared at the end of the night.

He said he believed the incident was a genuine misunderstanding but called for the matchday mementos to be returned.

“Someone may have taken them by mistake after they had been left on a table,” he said.

“The person may be feeling like they have made a mistake and may feel embarrassed to come forward.

“My plea to the person is, if you do have the cards, please just get in touch with me or post them to the club.

“You will not be judged and we understand it is a mistake.”

Kevin said despite the incident, the night had been a success overall.

“We raised over £11,000 for a great charity and had some Rotherham legends reliving their memories and telling some great stories,” he said.

“Alan Lee drove all the way from Ipswich and back to be there which was fantastic.

“All the players were really down-to-earth and really friendly.

“It was great to see people with a smile on their faces and we hope the cards will be returned to us shortly.”
