Tash tastic fund-raising effort

A TEAM of charity-minded firefighters have earned the nickname “the flaming lips” after growing moustaches to raise awareness of men’s health issues.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue employees have been growing moustaches throughout the November in support of the national Movember campaign which has seen thousands of men cultivating facial hair to raise awareness and funds for cancer charities.

More than 40 firefighters joined the “Flaming Lips” team to be part of the month-long drive that raised around £4,000.

They marked the end of their fund-raising with a moustache-judging party where their facial furniture was judged in terms of size, texture, shape and creativity.

SYFR Group Manager Mick Mason said: “This has been a fantastic event, with everyone embracing the fun factor of Movember, and also the slight competitiveness that has arisen.

“On a serious note, this is a very worthy cause which raises awareness of men's health for which we have all worn our moustaches with pride.”
